After the "Storm"

Shot taken at Terheijden (think of 'Heidi'), a small village 4 km away from Breda. It was raining but I was determined not to take an inside shot because ... well, because I wasn't in the mood to take an inside shot. The rain already determines and influences a lot of things -- what to wear (or not), the traffic, the speed at which things can get done, one's mood(s) -- but I was not going to let it decide what blip I was going to make. Not today, anyway.

It appears that the equivalent of half the IJsselmeer, a lake in the north, 'downpoured' into the country yesterday, resulting in semi-serious flooding in some provinces, including Zeeland. The dikes held, the rivers didn't overflow, so the flooding was really just the result of so much rain. Farmers everywhere are busy pumping out the water as fast as they can. Otherwise, their entire crop of potatoes, tulips, turnips, onions, and so on will go to waste. We are high and dry where we are but our thoughts are with these hardworking 'boeren' ('booren').

Hope your start of the week is good!
