My Life With Luna

Ulster American Folk Park

We decided to visit the Ulster American Folk Park today and arrived at lunch time. Lunch was eaten and enjoyed and we started our tour of the Folk Park thinking we had at least 4 hours to wander round and take lots of photographs. At the first cottage we were told the Park closed at 4 pm not 5 pm as we thought. So with 43 buildings and 3 large exhibitions to look at we decided to concentrate on the Old World part to be able to do it justice. Unfortunately time did run out so perhaps the new world next time!! The photograph is of a Weavers Cottage. A room was laid aside for a handloom which would have been used to spin tweed or linen. The man of the house would spend his evenings weaving while his wife spun the flax fibres into yarn and the children carded and combed the flax in preparation for the spinning wheel. I found this extremely interesting as I do spin wool- when time allows - and I felt like I was being taken back in time just by being there.
