Farnborough Hall
Near Banbury, Oxfordshire.
Since it's a bank holiday weekend, we felt compelled to go and visit a National Trust property. I always thought Farnborough was in Kent, but there is also one in Oxfordshire - which is just as well otherwise the journey would have been a tad longer. We packed a picnic which included a bottle of our cheap French wine, but found ourselves totally outdone by some professional picnickers who bought along chairs, a cooker and a Fiat Doblo. The point about this vehicle is that it has double doors at the back like a van. They open the doors and set up their chairs and table so they have their backs to the vehicle and the open doors act like side windbreaks. All they have to do is get the orientation of the van correct and they never suffer from the effects of cold and wind.
We avoided suffering from wind by not packing a three-bean salad.
