A glimpse of my day

Strange Monument in Prague

Walking around Prague today we went into what looked like a shopping precinct (Lucerna Pasaz) and was confronted by this strange sculpture. A dead horse strung upside down with a soldier sitting on it.
It is the work of David Černý, a Czech sculptor who is known for his provocative creations. It refers to the legendary Czech patron saint, St. Wenceslas who was assassinated in 935. Apparently it caused an uproar locally, as it was seen by many as being disrespectful and poking fun at a rather saintly part of Czech heritage! Initially it certainly startled me. I suppose that is what art is about.
