Lesser Wanderer

It's a good job I checked in my book, because I've just discovered this is an Australian native butterfly, the Lesser Wanderer (Danaus petilia). I looked at the black and white spotted body, and assumed that it was the North America monarch, but when you look at the images side by side, they are quite different.

Another butterfly not commonly seen in suburban Adelaide gardens, but we did go to Brownhill Creek after shopping today, which strictly speaking isn't in the suburbs though only spitting distance away.

It's definitely a good year for butterflies!!
