Silver Birch

Silver Birch is one of my favourite trees. I love its colour and delicacy. This piece of bark had migrated from my neighbour’s garden this morning. Inside and out, it’s just beautiful.

The wood can be used for wooden spoons, the sap for wine, or simply drunk on its own, the bark for tanning or making waterproof glue. Even the brushwood can be used in making fences for horse jumps. It is Sweden’s national tree and the bark was at one time ground up to make famine food in Sweden.
