Spotted Ponies

Worth looking at in large view

I pulled off the Interstate and back-tracked down a long frontage road to take a photo of a billboard. But, on the way, I came across these spotted ponies in the morning fog at the edges of a worn field.

I watched them graze on what’s left of autumn’s golden grass, and the morning sun cast tall shadows off their thick coats and rugged resolve.

With tails turned toward the wind and heads hung low, they are both aware that I am here. Like the weathered fenceposts and the standing oak, they know that THEY belong here. And, that I don't.

One white foot, buy him.
Two white feet, try him.
Three white feet, be on the sly.
Four white feet, pass him by.
