Rivington Pike

Top of Rivington Pike Horwich there is a folly. The chap in the picture told me a bit about it. Originally it was the site of a beacon to warn of invasion. It took its cue from one on Snowdon. The folly was the work of a victor in a law case over grazing rights up here in the 18th century. He was basically saying 'up yours' to his defeated opponent. It's amazing how much you learn from chance meetings on tops of hills.
