Jamica Inn (or "Kirkby transformed")
Since my post on Friday, the market square has been transformed into another place. I'm unfamiliar with "Jamaica Inn", so I'm not sure precisely when it's supposed to be set. Definitely sometime before indoor plumbing and antibiotics, though.
This evening, the little fellow and I wandered over to the square to see what was happening. We weren't the only ones with that idea and there were plenty of familiar faces to say hello to around the periphery but, for the most part, everybody was focussed on the filming.
It's always fascinating to look behind the curtain and to see how the magic is made. And, for television, that seems to consist of doing the same thing over and over again. But watching how that happens is totally absorbing: people calling out instructions over a PA, actors and extras getting back into position, the same action tacking place. Action that, from thirty yards away, is hard to divine.
It was interesting watching the square being turned into something (or somewhere else) but now it's changed, it's just odd and slightly surreal. It doesn't look like the square dressed up, it just looks like somewhere different. So we watched for a bit longer, decided it was a bit chilly, and went home.
