Fireplace Detail

This is a fireplace with an interesting story. The house is Georgian and the tiles would have been made to order for the original owner. The staff seen on these tiles is called a Caduceus and would in combination with the two snakes most likely have been chosen by a businessman or somebody involved in commerce. Apparently the house was first owned by a Captain in the Merchant Navy. Had this tile been found in America it would have meant the owner was a doctor.
