This Used to be my Playground

Quite a nostalgic day today. This was my first school. It used to provide education for children aged 4-9. It is currently Grace's school, but Ophelia will never go there. Not in this beautiful old board school building anyway. As a result of various shenanigans in the local education system last academic year, our village middle school which catered for kids aged 9-13 was closed and the First School became a primary in September. The empty middle school site is in the process of being revamped and will be used by the newly formed 4-11 age range primary school. That's where Ophi will start next September. In many ways it is a great thing for the children as the new school is much bigger and more modern. They have much more outdoor space. However, concerns still exist about the future of the First School buildings and how they will be used. It's very central to our village. The sound of the children echoes around the place and you can see them all playing in the yard. I love it on Fridays when I'm off work and able to see Gracie on the playground, talk to her and give her a little hug. This was the last Friday I can do that as they have a training/packing day next week and move to the new site after half term. On the plus side, the new school backs onto our estate and we can see the playing field from our upstairs windows. School run might involve the kids just hopping over a fence in future years!
