Le Baiser

Today's the day ...................... for a bit of a snog

You might well think I've got a bit of an obsession with kissing couple statues - and you're probably right?!

This is a bronze version of the famous one by Auguste Rodin and it is to be found just outside the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris. It depicts the 13th century Italian adulterous lovers - Francesca da Rimini and Paolo Malatesta - who were slain by Francesca’s outraged husband. They appear in Dante’s Inferno, which describes how their passion grew as they read the story of Lancelot and Guinevere together. The book can just be seen in Paolo’s hand.

One of three marble originals is currently on loan to the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh until 2nd February 2014.....................
