These birds live here all year round but many more migrate here in winter from the frozen north. Interestingly, the males migrate off to moult in huge flocks after the mating season. Sometimes are far as Norway though some moult in Eastern Scotland too.

An early arrival of migratory ducks is supposed to presage a harsh winter.
