A Misty, Moisty Morning on the Black Isle.
Rosehaugh Estate
It was a very misty morning this morning, I delayed our walk until the sun started peeking through but it didn't last and we were back into the mist again. The dogs are somewhere in this photo but I couldn't find them, they're off in the woods I think, - pheasants!
This is a lovely walk through woodland then out onto a path with a lovely view. It runs into what I call the ramparts, but which really is the ruined entrance to the old Rosehaugh house. The house stood on a large flat area looking down over the terraced gardens and large lake. The only bits left standing are the old wine cellars, the stables, the garden terrace walls and steps (the ramparts!) and a few cottages and outbuildings which are now done up as luxury holiday homes The house was amazing but it was demolished sometime in 1959 as it was too costly to run. The grounds are now owned by an insurance firm who hire it out for shoots in the winter months.
The owners are very kind in allowing anyone to walk on the Estate. The dogs love it but I do have to be careful at this time of the year as the young pheasants have just been let free, NOT for dogs to chase!
Whilst walking today the old Nursery Rhyme kept running through my head
"One misty, moisty morning
When cloudy was the weather,
There I met an old man
All clothed in leather.
All clothed in leather
With a cap under his chin,
How do you do?
And how do you do?
And how do you do again?
We didn't meet a little man all clothed in leather, we met no-one!
