THE day

3years 354days.

Little did Katie know, but today was to be the day that she has been waiting 6months for, since we first booked our trip to Australia. Today she would meet kangaroos and koalas.

The morning was lovely, we went to Whiteman Park, a huge national park near Perth. We met up with some Mums' Group Mums and played in the giant play area. The kids had morning tea, we went on a train ride through the bush. They ate a huge picnic lunch. It was a lot of fun. But it all paled into insignificance when we told Katie where we were going for the afternoon.

Cavendish Wildlife Park is in the middle of Whiteman Park. There children, and adults, can get right in with the kangaroos, and hand feed them, cuddle them, stroke them. We spent a really long time with them. We saw a mummy with her tiny joey, we saw another mummy feeding her "toddler". We saw this little dude just laid out in the sun, letting the children cuddle him. It was a really great experience. Katie loved it. Her face the first time she saw the koalas was worth every second of travelling on its own. She had the most incredible smile on her face when she got to go up and stroke one.

We then took them into the little farm area for a while where they got in with the rabbits for a play - there were baby albino, black and grey, just like Katie's rabbits, so she was thrilled. The farm area was basically a way for us to fill time before the hands-on experience. She got to pet a ginger possum (who was sleeping, woke up, looked straight at her, "smiled" so the keeper said, then went back to sleep for everyone else!), a wombat and a whole load of other animals. We managed a photo of all of us together, with the womabt, the first and only one of the holiday!

Today was everything that I hoped it would be for her.
