Savannah, Georgia
After leaving Miami, we've stopped in St Augustine and now in Savannah. I can't say enough good things about St Augustine and in fact will plan on returning to that charming town for a more thorough visit.
Savannah, on the other hand, has been a bit disappointing. It's nice but I found it a bit "repetitive" in its design and architecture, and rather "thin" on history (perhaps more anecdotal?). The cobblestones and brick provide nice textures throughout, as does the Spanish moss (which is neither Spanish, nor moss and full of chiggers as people who used it for mattress and pillow stuffing quickly found out...).
The night scene in the main tourist area is entertaining enough (and some of the food absolutely wonderful). Savannah's policy of open alcohol containers on the streets makes for a higher than average number of highly intoxicated people: it's at the same time entertaining and rather pathetic. Sometimes, I think drunkenness is worn as a badge of honor in these parts. Never understood that...
Antonio Bendara was in town, filming part two of Sponge Bob - the movie. I had no idea there was a part one... I wonder what role Bendara plays... how have the mighty fallen! ;)
