Not the Gypsy Lady

But she's here! Thank you Greece! The super Erikson Air-Cranes, made infamous by Elvis, are such a relief to see flying in the skies when a bushfire is approaching. Another is due to arrive in a month, but bushfire season got off to a shocking flying start this year.

These helicopters are thick in the skies like bees on a summer afternoon. Its more than a little disconcerting, offering relief at the same time as it raises anxiety.

The Blue Mountains is holding it's breath. Public meeting tonight and we have just been doorknocked by the SES (State Emergency Services).

UPDATE!

First of all, the SES came and I asked their opinion of an overhanging branch. They said they'd remove it - 7 men plus media camera crew and 2 hours later it was gone - how fabulous is that! The branch is now down on the ground and not up in the air, so I'm not entirely sure how this helps a lot - but I'm just following the brochures!

Public meeting tonight was ENORMOUS ( at least 1200 people some have said) and they did their very best to scare us all stupid.

Overall, I think they did a pretty damn fine perfect job of this.

We'll see what the next couple of days brings.
