Giant Orange Sulfur Cosmos
I have grown cosmos of all types and varieties for years now, and the Sulfur Cosmos in yellows and oranges are among my favorites and seem to grow more prolifically, reliably and self sow more abundantly than almost anything in the garden, but they typically have not grown more that 3 feet or so. This cottage garden area, with a wild and lush array of all types of cottage garden flowers all summer has almost died back completely and been cut down and cleaned out for fall but for some reason this stand of cosmos at the back of green gated garden started growing like mad just as everything else was dying back, and grow it did! It finally started blooming a few days ago and this cosmos is higher than the edge of the roof, much taller than I am. It is shocking, delightful, amazing. I took this picture this morning as the sun shone brightly over the cottage and felt a rush of gratitude, to be standing next to these miraculous flowers, considered humble cottage garden flowers, they are the stars of this year...
