Acer in the rain
View LARGE to see the raindrops
The rain that affected so much of the country arrived in the Lakes by about 10.30 - we were at Grasmere, just about to shoot some great reflections, and within a few seconds the surface of the lake rippled with heavy rain! It stayed all day, and although it dampened us, and our cameras (mostly covered with some waterproof covers) - it didn't dampen our spirits. We relocated to Rydal Hall (good tea rooms) and spent a good deal of the day photographing the waterfalls, the gardens, and this wonderful red acer tree. I set these leaves against a dark background, waited for a lull in the wind (no lull in the rain) and managed to keep the leaves pretty sharp, with the rain just visible falling behind. I thought it summed the day up perfectly.
