Nature's Song

Today some woodsmen arrived early to cut down a large beech tree in the woods next to the house. The trunk had forked many years ago. Although the two parts had grown large and strong, over the years the rain had seeped into the wood where the trunk parted in two and started to rot the trunk. The tree came down with a very loud thud! Despite its size the trunk was soon sawn into cross-sections and driven off in a trailer. Perhaps it will now spend several years seasoning as firewood. The rest of the day I spent listening to the (remaining) trees blowing in the breeze and the rain falling outside - very relaxing and most decadent!
