A very special delivery

Tonight was very exciting as our new table was delivered. This may not sound that exciting but it is three years in the making and the first time we have designed and commissioned a piece of furniture.

It started three years ago when we were celebrating New Year's Eve in a really nice bar in Kingsbridge in Devon. The first thing we noticed was the amazing coffee table which was made of old printing trays, with all the various sized compartments filled with a random mix of trinkets and collectors items.

After buying four printing trays from Portobello Market which date back to the 1890's, we finally found a clever furniture maker who was happy to take on the project. He's built a frame, attached the trays, hand crafted some beautiful legs and added a thick piece of detachable glass.

Last night we had great fun adding all the items we have been collecting from our travels which includes a fridge magnet of a Venetian gondolier man, London Marathon medals, Cuban money, Olympics tickets, cuff links from being best man for James and my brother and a thimble with a Peruvian llama on it.

It looks great and has extra meaning as Laura and I met whilst working in publishing so the trays themselves are a lovely doth of the cap to our history.

It also means we have an excuse to visit every gift shop we come across!
