The Boathouse
After a morning report wrtiting, Rosie and I went for a lunchtime walk, just managing to coincide with one of the many rain showers that have fallen today. Fortunately it wasn't too heavy, and by the time we were approaching the end of the walk, the sun was struggling to come out.
The building on the left of the picture is The Boathouse, our local pub or at least one of several that are within walking distance. It's a newish building, but has an excellent position overlooking a backwater of the River Nene. From this aspect it's quite hard to believe it's less than a mile from the centre of Peterborough. On a warm summer day or evening it's usually heaving with pople, but at two this afternoon it was almost deserted.
I got back just in time to ferry Ben to the orthodontist. He had elastic bands fitted which he has to wear all the time except for when he's eating or brushing his teeth. For the first time he's actually been in pain following the adjustment and couldn't eat his evening meal - fortunately he had a late lunch in town before the effect kicked in!
While we were in town we spent some time looking for fancy dress accessories for Friday's party. We managed to dodge a couple of torrential showers, and when we finally left the car park just after 5pm the sky was absolutely stunning, with bruised purplish clouds to the east and bright sunshine reflecting off all the wet surfaces. Unfortunately there was nowhere to stop, and I didn't have my camera. I hope someone managed to record the sky, as it was truly biblical and apocalyptic.
