Art In the Park
This image of an Indian is on the tribute statue of Jean Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, who founded New Orleans in the year 1717. The statue was installed in 1955 by some former fellows of the town.
That's old Jean's foot over the indian's shoulder. There's also a Catholic Padre just out of the picture. Both the padre and the indian are at foot level on ol' Jean Baptiste.... One of those things that makes you go hmmm.
Today, we learned that after the French colony was established here, one had to be French AND catholic to stay and live in the swamp. It's a wonder that King Louie got any takers. So, he did what any good king would do; he emptied his prisons and sent them here.
