It was going to be an aggressive squirrel which chased us along the path and eventually climbed up A's leg in search of food or some crows appearing to use a tree as a swing but in the end it was my gal's attention to detail which turned my chaotic pie into a thing of handmade beauty.

This is the girl who thinks she's not good at cookery at school - but can't separate out the actually being good at it from her disinterest in doing anything to anyone else's timetable. I've struggled with that over the years - I deeply admire her desire not to be swayed by the demands of others but I do worry about her intransigence. She's a complex one, that one. I just hope she finds what's right for her...
