Autumn Fire

Of course leaves don't turn red / orange / yellow in autumn. The colours have always been there. It's just that the tree has decided there's not enough light and it's too cold, so to kill the leaves, the tree cuts off the supply of chlorophyll to the leaf. The tree will sometimes produce anthocyanins to kill the leaf, which turns leaves red. A separation layer then forms, which when complete, causes the leaf to fall from the tree.

Enjoy it while it lasts.
