Wäinö Aaltonen: The Logbearers

Such a sunny day I decided to visit one of my earlier blip sites: the city centre's southern park and the fountain-memorial for the first co-operative shop in Finland (founded in Tampere in 1900).

The men depicted here are called The Logbearers.

Mind you, this is just the southern side of the sculpture. The other side which features co-op women (called Coming Home from Shopping) remains to be shot at a later date.

In the background looms the former industrial building of Klingendahl which has an 81 metre tall chimney. The smokestack was constructed around the same time as the sculpture.
