Life beyond the gate

Everything reminds me of the past at the moment. This is one of a row of gates in a long stone wall, each gate leading to a private garden belonging to the house on the opposite side of the narrow lane. We walked up here first ten years ago with our friends A and A who were about to show us which gardens further on up the hill were for sale. Our great good fortune was to buy a plot which is right next to A and A's garden.
I'm pondering how to make a study of these gates, which bar entry and vision quite effectively to what lies beyond, but if you're tall like me (too tall to get in here without crouching) there are glimpses as you walk of washing lines, toys, aviaries, swings, tomato canes, shaded patios, sheds, wells. Family life and growth.
An overcast day, and I had the manual 28mm lens to get a broad view, but on f2.8 the image quality isn't terrific. I'll be trying again in brighter light and smaller aperture another day.
