Fields of green......but not grass :(
Out for a lovely walk on the South Downs with trusted faithful hound. Got to reminiscing about old Ray an old local character who used to tell me he remembered the first years when they turned the southdowns over to turn into arable fields of wheat etc. Reading this book Carbon Fields it certainly looks like a huge mistake, the grain has depleted the soil utterly and completely and on many a dog walk I see the farmers desperately fertilising the soil and I smell the aftermath of the cocktail of chemicals that the world seems to think we need on our crops......sigh Ray expalined how those many years ago the first ploughing of that land the soil was an extraordinary rich deep colour, NOTHING like the colour it is today. Bring back the grass meadows and the grazing animals which won't require grain in their feed.bring back the true rotation of farming on the land, and we'd be a damn site more healthy. Grains are know to contribute to most of the debilitating ailments of the present day, along with all the junk food manufactured and which we all seem to believe is healthy. The real circle of nature, something the big AgroChemical bullies don't want us to remember . Bring back pure Meadow fattened meat, butter and milk.
