It's a start!
I got up this morning, and despite convincing myself last night I wouldn't run today, I found myself lacing up. I thought I'd just go for a short one to keep the legs ticking over.
I got to the stage where I should have turned left to make a short 5 mile loop and instead I carried on. I ended up doing just over 8 miles. I had no particular goals - I didn't look at my pace as I went, I just ran.
I found myself singing along (out loud) to St Elmo's Fire, Thriller, Flashdance and Boys of Summer (enough said about my playlist). God knows what people thought I was doing - I can't imagine it sounded good to the average passer-by! But I do believe I was enjoying myself again - it's been a while!
Most importantly though, I got that feeling. I could breathe. It's hard to describe - but it's like taking a really deep breath and feeling your body relax just a little bit and you can feel your worries and tensions slipping away. Another reason why I run. I can't recall when I last felt it, but it felt good.
This is a view from the Coillesdene junction at Portobello this morning.
Today's run: 8 miles
October running mileage: 33 miles
2013 running mileage: 908 miles
