Old stables at Willowsporn

Today we visited 2 different Open Gardens in the Barossa Valley. The first one was Evanston at Keyneton, the town that is home to Hensche's famous Hill of Grace wine. Evanston is owned by the 6th generation of the Evans family. It was simply incredible, packed with wonderful plantings and historic old buildings.

Then it was on to Willowsporn in the small village of Light Pass (near Nuriootpa). This enchanting, large-scale cottage garden embraces a heritage-listed property with original cottage, stables, barn, shearers' quarters and blacksmith building.

Clearer stonework.

Roses, wisteria, clivias, irises, geraniums, pelargoniums, sedum and succulents abound in this predominantly spring-summer-autumn garden. Dotted througout are rusty old sculptures, adding interest and variety to this wonderful garden experience.

The original buildings and core of the property dates back to the original Sporn family in the 1840s. The present owners took over from the Sporns in 1995.

There were so manywonderful scenes it was hard to select one. In the end I decided to blip the wood shed attached to the former horse stables.
