Fishing off Ogden Point Breakwater
Father and son. They had a couple of odd looking fish in their bucket. I think they might have been rockfish, but I can't be sure. I've never actually seen a rockfish with its face and skin on. Bit embarrassing, seeing as I'm only twenty minutes walk from the harbour.
Despite the toque, it was actually rather warm on the breakwater today. The wind can be ferocious out there, but today it was dead calm. You can see a dark cloud rolling in from the northwest. It actually rolled over without any fuss, so it only went rather dark in the afternoon, then around 6pm it had passed over and the ambient light had an distinct orange tinge to it. Everything was glowing for a few minutes.
Ogden Point Breakwater is half a mile long and only nine feet wide. The guard rails are a recent addition. Before the guard rails were installed it was a long strip of stone and mortar that jutted out into the Strait. Perilous!
When Fred was small he could only go half way and we'd have to turn back because he'd get dizzy. Not surprising considering he was walking a tightrope of stones twenty feet above the water, sheer drop either side. But I've since realized that due to me gripping him by his collar as we stumbled along the breakwater, I'd reduced the oxygen supply to his brain.
