We celebrate the
achievements of the founder
of youth hostels here .
~ carliewired
In 1933 Mary Belle Barclay set up a tent in Bragg Creek, Alberta, establishing the first Canadian hostel. The government of Canada awarded her the Order of Canada in 1987 in recognition of her achievements in pioneering hostelling. This year we remember her as we enjoy eighty years of hostelling in Canada.
