Latchford Lock
Bloody terrible weather today, but coming out of a meeting in the arse end of Warrington i passed Latchford lock and stopped for a fag break, the gods looked kindly and i had gorgeous evening light as i sat on a capstan enjoying the air.
This is the Manchester ship canal, built in 1894 to avoid paying port duty at Liverpool, still carries six million tonnes of cargo a year but i am buggered if i have ever seen a ship on it, they must use submarines.
Anyway, when the money was handed over to build it, it was the largest cheque ever written at the time, £1.7 million ... says it all about my brain... can remember useless crap but cant remember where i left the car keys.
