My First Red Poppy of the Season
This morning was cold and calm, and because it's a public holiday, it was also quiet. I took advantage of the conditions and worked on trees and shrubs that had been forced out of position by the gales of the last few weeks. A couple could be shoved back, one I tied back, but the rest had to be cut off. While I was at it I went around the garden and trimmed many other trees and bushes. Then I spent the afternoon cleaning up the mess I made.
It's Labour Day here, a public holiday originally constituted to celebrate the 40 hour week and other rights and safeguards won by the workers. The day has little meaning now that the human resources have very few rights, safeguards or stable hours of work.
