Special day
Regular readers will know that Calum volunteers at the local steam railway. He's been going there for about five years; starting in the catering team on the trains and then progressing to getting filthy in the engine sheds. Today was the first day of his first paid job - as an engineering apprentice................. at the railway. I know many people who never get their dream job and it seems that he's managed to find it at the age of 18. I'd already said that I'd take him today as he needed to be at the offices early and they are not at his normal place of work but as it goes the weather meant that public transport wasn't an option. We dodged felled trees and saw evidence of others that had already been cut up to clear the roads and got there in plenty of time.
I was going to blip a photo of the storm damage closer to home. Neighbours have lost fences and sheds have been damaged but then I saw this. It's one of a pair of gate posts at the entrance to the farm. The gateway is wide enough to accommodate the large lorries that come and go with apples and whatever else large lorries bring and take from a farm so it's easy to imagine the size and weight of the gates; that's why these guys are so substantial! The gates are long gone which doesn't surprise me the volume of traffic that uses this entrance.
So Monday has blown itself out. Embrace the evening and look forward to another Tuesday; the only one we're due this week.
