The storm was not as fierce near us as we'd thought it might be and having replaced our 100-year-old windows in June we couldn't even hear the wind in the trees nor the familiar rattle of ill-fitting frames. It was only when I went round the corner and discovered a 3-metre-length of a neighbour's garden wall flat on the pavement that I realised it really had passed our way.
