A poisonous feast

Gathered by wild winds,
Laid on a cold stone table,
A poisonous feast.

The wild winds of the storm shook the Yew berries from the tree in the churchyard, spreading the berries over the ground, the path and a flat gravestone beneath the tree. The morning sun made them shine like jewels.

Apparently, the red part of these fruits isn't actually poisonous, it's the coating of the seed which is an emetic. So birds come along and eat the berries and then spew out the seed later, hopefully elsewhere. How clever of old ma nature!
