The Bridgewater Monument
The Bridgewater Monument was designed by Sir Jeffry Wyatville and built in 1832 to commemorate the achievements of Francis Egerton, 3rd Duke of Bridgewater, also known as the 'Canal Duke' for his canal building successes. The monument is found in the grounds of the National Trust's Ashridge Estate.
If you climb the 172 steps of the Grade II listed monument you are rewarded with a view over seven counties.
