The Lairig Ghru.

Another relatively easy walk today to one of the most renowned passes in Scotland. The forecast was for heavy rain later and gale force winds on the summits so it was not a day for hanging around. We had only been going for 10 minutes before we came across a heard of Reindeer, animals which are well accustomed to these conditions. By the time we had climbed through the Chalamain Gap the wind was shifting us off our feet on a regular basis. A slightly faster return journey with the wind behind us and an opportunity to take a wind speed reading of 78mph, not the highest gust of the day but non the less an idea of what conditions where like.
The highlight of the day however was when we got back to the van when a Bullfinch sat on the waving vegetation filling itself with much needed food.
all attempts to photograph this colourful creature where thwarted by a filthy windscreen, still great to sit and watch it though.
