City nights
Life in Glasgow is interesting, yesterday no water, today no light! Or less light. The street lights and traffic lights in a large section of the Merchant City went out as I came out of Queen Street and walked onto George Square to take this shot. It gives me a pretty unusual shot - a flood lit City Chambers without the annoying street lights in the way, but as it was so dark I had to shoot on 3200ISO, which with a 500D is beyond noisy, hence so much post processing noise reduction it's verging on an artistic effect!
For those far from our fair city, a burst water main caused much of the southside to spend about 4 hours without water, and some pretty significant road closures due to localised flooding - well the water had to go somewhere! They seem to be working on it again tonight as my bus took a very circuitous route home, not even the bus driver seemed to know where he was going, which he freely admitted. Not confidence inspiring to say the least, but with a little help from the passengers we made it back onto Bridge Street eventually.
Having no water does make you think about the many, many people who never have clean running water in their houses. We moan when it's off for a few hours, imagine living without it every day!
