Au Revoir UK
We are setting sail from Portsmouth to Caen tonight along with some other CTC cyclists and travelling down to Loches in the Loire Valley where we will be cycling around and about for a week. Goodness knows if there will be any internet access and I have forgotten my French Dictionary, so watch this space!
Yesterday afternoon was particularly stressful. The Southampton/Portsmouth part of England is a nightmare of connecting motorways and fast drivers, and we found it hard to navigate to our overnight stay in Horndean. Eventually after some complete circuits of various roundabouts towards the end, we made it to the Ship and Bell and our room. I have to say that his Lordship and I communicated in "very loud voices" on the final few miles and then had a few hours of silence when we reached our destination.
This morning his Lordship discovered he had forgotten his cycling shoes with the cleats for his cleated pedals. Panic! However if ever there was someone looking after him then it was evident when we went to Halfords in Waterlooville and bought the only pair of cycling shoes they had, and which miraculously fitted him!!
We are now ensconced in McDonalds in the town blipping this- my reward for having escorted him to find shoes. Thank goodness for Roadchef and McDonalds- free WiFi!
I hope the sea is calm tonight and we are not seasick.
As you will understand the cycling will come second to blipping so I hope I won't have to back blip an entire week.
