In the Foothills of Yuma

A house neglected
is a very, very sad
thing. Desert returns.

The annual migration of snowbirds is currently underway. Canadians who shun ice and snow are, once again, flocking to warmer locations like Arizona. In our neighbourhood, some have already returned. We see their vehicles parked, their lights on in the evening, their laundry out on the clothesline.....we notice that their home and yard is tended. In some sad cases, the owner does not return. We notice those too. The yard will look neglected and the desert will begin to take it all back. In the months that we are absent, the temperatures climb to 120 degrees Farenheit and the summer monsoon brings some torrential rain in thunderstorms. This particular house belongs to someone we know. It wasn't rented out this year and it hasn't had a lot of attention lately. It looks forlorn.
