Mozzie farm
The time has come to empty out all the containers of water I've had standing about for the last two weeks, ready to hand in case of falling embers and failing water pressure. Didn't have to use any of it, luckily.
The water in the wood barrow has leached a whole lot of tannic acid out of the bits of wood I chucked in there (better wet than dry, under the circumstances), so that water will go on the hydrangeas and maybe give them a little extra blueness.
Much as I like to support the local wildlife, having buckets and bins and so on of water about the place not only attracts mosquitoes, but snakes as well - and we don't want them hanging about too close!
This particular snake is apparently a Copperhead (Austrelaps ramseyi), which is fine with me! Although they're very venomous, they're not especially aggressive or inclined to bite. This particular species lives at relatively high altitudes and in relatively cold climates, so it's no surprise to find them here.
I'd much rather have a Copperhead in the backyard than an Eastern Brown, I can tell you!
