Sad/bad/mad

This badger had been killed last night or early this morning and was lying by the side of the road not far from our house. Badgers have had a bad press recently and are being actively culled in some parts of Britain. Seems to me like they are just trying to live quietly in our countryside as they have been doing for centuries, long before cars, guns or the intensive breeding of cattle for milk and meat.

We saw it on our way to Glenkiln, for a windy and wild walk up toTurner's Monument . Usually there's a great view of the Galloway Hills, but not today. We ended our walk by visiting the Glenkiln Cross, just about the only statue that hasn't been removed after the theft of Henry Moore's Standing Figure a few weeks ago.
