Some Days You Never Forget
The visit to Westminster Abbey came from my 'wish list'. The last time I went I would have been ten or eleven so that's about half a century ago!!
It was as I remembered only better, I was unsure how the children at fifteen and twelve would find it but need not have worried.
We entered the Abbey and collected our audio guides, starting together in the Nave we gradually separated as each of us completed the tour at their own pace.
I found it strangely moving and uplifting, centuries of heritage and history that is the envy of the world. The children's reactions were not what I expected, they were enthralled by it all and once the tours were over seemed reluctant to leave.
We lunched in the Abbey's Cellarium Restaurant before heading off to Southwark.
The Tate Modern by complete contrast was 'different', some of the exhibits I got, others I thought could have been piles of left over building materials from the renovations and others were just "tosh", (a piece of framed sacking, slashed called "Waiting"). Sam understood what she was looking at though which was what it was all about. She came away with part of an exhibit, we're still unsure if you were allowed to help yourself or if the artist is likely to become irate when he finds it missing!!
Train back to Reading for a healthy dose of Nando's before bed and the South Coast tomorrow.
