Chinese Camp
Backblip
One of the many houses that are empty and falling apart in this little place along the Highway 49 that brought us back all the way from Yosemite to Placerville. Chinese Camp has been erected in parts by mine owners for their Chinese workers and partly by Chinese Mine owners. Now there are, as someone said, maybe 50 people and 100 cows.
I had all my life a great interest in exploring these buildings where no one lives anymore, that are given up. Their morbid charm incites my fantasy into picturing how people used to live there, why they had to leave and many more stories. But I always admire the craftsmanship of the former owners or builders.
