The tree outside our living room window has put on a fabulous autumnal display. We are lucky that our living room is 1 floor up so we get to see it up close. It was the nearest thing to sunshine we saw yesterday and by the time the witching hour came the rain had set in. Poor soggy treat-or-treaters.

I decided that we had done plenty to mark the occasion over the past few days, so we stayed at home. In the misty drizzle Em and I collected leaves and branches to decorate the table on the deck where our Jack-o-lanterns were waiting for their big moment. The candles were lit with a ceremonial flourish and fizz as the rain drops hit the flames. Despite all the rain they were alight until bedtime.
