Travelling in style
We drove over to Blaenau Ffestiniog for a trip on the Ffestinior Railway to the harbour at Porthmadog. Blaenau Ffestiniog is a slate-quarrying town and a very grey & depressing place it is too, particularly on a damp, drizzly day. The scenery is magnificent though and the railway itself is a marvel of engineering - the trip includes the Dduallt Spiral, where the tracks go round a complete spiral in order to cope with a steep gradient, which is unique on a public railway in the UK.
We decided to make the return trip in style and upgraded to First Class.
