Brodie Estate
More goodbyes this morning as I say farewell to the lovely Sue and Wim. I bought a bottle of their Riesling wine to remember them by (it probably won't last past the weekend!). Then off to the Brodie Estate, which is about five minutes down the road for a five day stay. I feel like a kid being dropped off at camp when Sue drives us over, as she has been like a surrogate mum for the last 10 days. We are hard at work in the vineyard by 9.30am, our job for the morning is bud rubbing, which is basically rubbing your hand up and town the grape vine to remove any new buds that are growing. Lots of bending and with the sun glaring down it is quite tough work. After lunch we spend an hour digging up trees that have started growing between the vines. Our accommodation is pretty amazing. A little cottage that the Brodie's rent out for $160 a night. It is so cosy and has everything we could need, including a verandah with spectacular views of their olive trees and the mountains that surround Martinborough.
