River poppy

Grows in the shingle river beds in Canterbury (and in my garden)

Also called Escholzia, California poppy, golden poppy, California sunlight, and cup of gold.

Native to North America and used in pre European times as medicine. It has a mild sedative effect apparently when smoked.
